Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal Collector

Peterlee, Seaham, Consett, Chester le Street, Stanley, Durham City

The Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal is the charity’s biggest national fundraising and awareness campaign and will help to provide vital nursing care across County Durham and the rest of the UK for people living with a terminal illness and their families. Sign up to join us at a local supermarket or street collection and help raise much-needed funds.

Our volunteers will be responsible for representing Marie Curie, giving out daffodils in exchange for a donation and generally raising the profile of Marie Curie at their provided collection location.
Collection locations can vary from instore such as a Morrisons, or to our Street Collections in the city centre - whichever suits you best.

Responsibilities

You will be handing our Marie Curie daffodil pins out to the public in exchange for a donation and raising vital funds to support people living with a terminal illness in your community. Sign up and we'll find a collection local to you. Each collection slot lasts 2 hours. Everybody and anybody can volunteer to collect for Marie Curie. The only thing you need to bring with you is a positive attitude and a smile. All collection equipment (collection tin, daffodil pins, yellow branded tabard, optional yellow hat and collection permit) will be provided for you at the collection site.

Other Information

Top tips for a successful collection

*Stand out from the crowd- You can never wear too much yellow! You’ll be given a yellow Marie Curie tabard to wear while collecting, and the iconic Great Daffodil Appeal hat (optional, but highly
recommended) to help you really stand out. If it’s your sort of thing, you could also wear fancy dress!

* Smile and make eye contact – people are more likely to make a donation if you look like you’re friendly and like you’re having fun.

*Remember why you’re volunteering- To boost your energy and put a spring in your step, remind yourself that every penny you collect will help people who are at the end of their lives or coping with bereavement. Your collector kit also includes a sticker which you can personalise to show your reason for wearing a daffodil.

*Cash donations- Make sure that all cash donations go into your collection tin or bucket. If you put money in a bag or your pocket it might concern people.
