Spread a message of LGBTQ plus hope with It Gets Better UK

Volunteering from Home

It Gets Better UK exists to tell LGBTQ+ stories, and to inspire and empower young LGBTQ+ people. The aim is to both archive the stories of LGBTQ+ people, but also to combat the high levels of self-harm and suicide in LGBT+ youth by providing role models and the positive message that “It Gets Better”.

Operating in local communities across the UK, Regional Ambassadors partner with members of their local LGBTQ+ communities so that more people can access and share our resources, contribute stories, and help fundraise for IGBUK.

Regional Ambassadors work independently and as a team to grow our collection of first-hand LGBTQ+ experiences and share these with a wider audience.

Responsibilities

Ambassadors undertake 4 (or more!) self-led actions a year, and volunteers are encouraged to play to their strengths. Some example actions include:

Running stalls at Pride and other local community events and in community spaces such as libraries, cafes, and community centres.

Giving talks about the work of It Gets Better UK at a workplace, a school, a university, or a community event.

Collaborating with local community groups to spread the word about It Gets Better UK. Ambassadors have set up partnerships with a pottery painting studio, an inclusive football team, an LGBTQ+ community centre, a library, and more - all to add to our bank of LGBTQ+ experiences, and share our resources with a wider audience.

Running story-collecting drives: working with friends, partners, or the community, bring people together to submit their It Gets Better video stories.
