OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT LEARNERS WITH DIGITAL MATHS AND LITERACY SKILLS

DurhamLearn is Durham County Council's Adult Skills provider. We work will people of all backgrounds to support them with foundation and vocational learning to help them access the skills they need for modern-day living and working.

Responsibilities

The DurhamLearn Foundation Learning Team are looking for volunteers interested in supporting our learners with digital, literacy and numeracy skills. You would work with individual learners who may need a little extra support in the classroom. We also work with ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners from all nationalities and are particularly interested in bilingual volunteers who could support us.

Skills & Qualities

A good level of numeracy and literacy and working knowledge of basic digital apps and devices. For ESOL, a good grasp of English grammar spelling and punctuation will be an advantage. Fluency in another language (particularly Dari, Pashto or Cantonese) would be an advantage to work in ESOL classes, but not essential

When & Where?

We deliver from different locations across County Durham. Class times are usually 09:30 to 15:00 Monday - Thursday but we would be grateful for any time you feel able to spare.

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

Full training on Fundamental British Values, Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty will be given on appointment.

Equipment and resources will be provided as needed and you will work under the guidance of an experienced tutor.

Travelling expenses will be fully reimbursed.

Other Information

You will be required to apply for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate through Durham County Council.
