Supporting asylum seekers in our region in whatever way is relevant and manageable. Providing a friendly face
Responsibilites include:
• Making initial contact with new service users via Whatsapp and establishing a line of communication
• Responsibilities may include: general advice giving, sourcing and delivering clothing, local area navigation, signposting, arranging and/or accompanying asylum seekers to medical appointments, wellbeing support, helping to fundraise for tech items (laptops, tablets, phones)
• Logging all tasks completed on online forms and in our spreadsheet
• Regularly attending monthly meetings on Zoom
• Communicating regularly with other volunteers and supporting them with their service users where applicable
• Reporting to Area Lead
You can carry out this role however works best for you, it could be fully remote or you can spend more time face-to-face with service users. Flexible and adaptable around your schedule and situation.
• Desire and enthusiasm to support asylum seekers in our region
• Basic understanding of and compassion towards the challenges asylum seekers face
• Computer literacy including proficiency with Google Drive and Sheets
• Experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential
• Ability to regularly meet on the third Tuesday of the month on Zoom at 7pm
• No specific qualifications necessary
• Any skills you have will be welcome and transferable!
Throughout County Durham. Can be completely remote if required.
